In Bihar State “violence against women “ is in very bad status . Women violence is of various types i.e. dowry, dowry murder, rape, trafficking, female foeticide , domestic violence ,gender discrimination etc. Women violence is with all age groups starting from childhood. Only very few cases are filed at the police station due to shame, family pressure , fear from dominant personality, apathy attitude of administration and Panchayat Raj system
Bihar state counts women literacy 55% (rural), men with 10 or more yrs. Of schooling 38% (rural), women with 10 or more yrs. Of schooling 22%(rural), women married before 18 yrs. 44% (rural) and men married before 21 yrs. 34% (rural). Further there is deep rooted poverty.
Unemployment is a major challenge in Bihar state . The problem of unemployment is aggravated by low literacy rate in the state. Female literacy rate is further degraded. Further there is unequal distribution of land and a major population is landless.
"SUGAM JAGRITI" has organized more than 5000 poor women in Self Help Groups and continuously strengthening the SHGs. Organization has continuously providing training and capacity building to SHGs on group management, book keeping, SHGs norms, meeting process,fund management,leadership etc.It has developed the confidence as well as leadership skills of women members and leaders
We feel that the success of all interventions depends on the involvement of the people for whom this has been aimed at. Therefore Partnership and active participation of target groups are the key to all of Sugam Jagriti’s activities.
